NORDTING

24.08.2018 - 25.08.2018

RakettNatt
Tromsø (NO)

You never really know what will happen when Amund Sjølie Sveen and his comrades enter the stage. Well, one thing we know; he swings his verbal ammunition high and low, left and right.
NORDTING is more a public meeting meets standup meets political meeting meets concert meets performance than anything else. Actor, writer, journalist and musician Amund Sjølie Sveen is known for making stage productions aiming directly at the elite; the people with power and money. He also questions the position of art itself in today's society.
NORDTING is lead by Amund Sjølie Sveen with Liv Hanne Haugen and Erik Stifjell and various local guests.

The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new.
(Samuel Beckett, Murphy)

In the installation DETAIL, a large and massive boulder hangs on the ceiling. It is hanging on a steel cable, on a ball bearing, allowing it to fully turn around its axis. The ball bearing is put in motion by a steel wheel rotated by a motor which takes its energy from solar panels. The whole chain leads to a relatively simple situation: whenever the sun shines, the boulder turns around its axis. Once the sun shines, and therefore the stone starts to revolve, the mechanism is simultaneously unrelenting: the fatalism of a world that has to and will turn. A mobile with sunlight. A surreal image with an undertone of danger and yet fascinating at the same time.

Conversations (at he end of the world)

03.08.2018 - 04.07.2018

Theater aan Zee - TAZ
Versluys/Dôme, Northlaan 13, Oostende (B)

What do you say, do or make when the end is nigh? In Conversations at the end of the world, a new piece by Kris Verdonck / A Two Dogs Company for large auditoria, five figures find themselves in an empty theatre space. They have only their bodies, their capabilities and the time that is left to them. Together these five figures, played by Johan Leysen, Jan Steen, Jeroen Van der Ven, José Kuijpers and the renowned pianist Marino Formenti, create a portrait of humankind in the crazy twentieth century – a century in which man’s image has been significantly eroded and whose wounds we still carry with us today. Waiting for the catastrophe that is inevitably coming, or in the midst of it, they welcome the audience to ‘a last evening’. When faced with death, the characters react with boredom, panic, madness, lethargy, nonsense and absurdity. Their absurdity is fed by the crazy logic of the war, ecological disasters, and all kinds of crises. Despite being in shock, they try to understand what is going on outside, and it is this absurd reaction to a cruel reality that lies behind this new project.

An Archive of Love

21.07.2018

Theaterhaus Stuttgart
Stuttgart (DE)

Nothing is more unique than love. But... Claudio Monteverdi was already hunting Amor in Madrigali guerrieri et amorosi, Claude Vivier was frolicking with Eros in his Love Songs, and José Sanchez-Verdu captured Thanatos – courier of the underworld – in Scriptura Antigua. In Annelies Van Parys' Ah, cette fable an angel gets entangled in an earthly love. As all these little tragedies unfold, the collective archive of love resonates more and more. Echoes attach themselves to these new stories and push them in fresh directions.

D.I.Y - Manual for a potential future

30.06.2018

FINN - Festspillene i Nord-Norge
Harstad (NO)

Today, our society suffers a future crisis. It seems nearly impossible to imagine a society radically different form the existing one. We are trapped in the realities of the present. The project DIY or manual for a possible future, is based on recognition that the world can not change if we are unable to think about new futures. More than ever, we therefore need utopias.

‘The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can never be made or destroyed
Sunlight transforms into trees,
trees become oil,
oil is oxidised into CO2.
Nothing is lost
Matter and energy transform endlessly in various states
All matter and everything that ever will exist
exists already.'

Performance by and with installation artist Lawrence Malstaf, dancer / performer Liv Hanne Haugen, playwright Tale Næss, musician / performer Amund Sjølie Sveen and director Jon Tombre.

PROTOTIPOAK 2018: tele-present wind (expanded)

30.05.2018 - 16.09.2018

Azkuna Zentroa
Bilbao

The expanded version of tele-present wind  by David Bowen consists of a series of 126 x/y tilting mechanical devices connected to thin dried plant stalks installed in a gallery and a dried plant stalk connected to an accelerometer installed outdoors. When the wind blows it causes the stalk outside to sway. The accelerometer detects this movement transmitting the motion to the grouping of devices in the gallery. Therefore, the stalks in the gallery space move in real-time and in unison based on the movement of the wind outside.

SONGS OF LOVE AND WAR / AN ARCHIVE OF LOVE

20.05.2018 - 21.05.2018

Operadagen Rotterdam
Noletloodsen Theater, Rotterdam (NL)

More than any generation before us, we are preoccupied with love. Is not it after all the most individual of all emotions? And are not our love stories, like we ourselves, utterly unique?

Imagine we are wrong. And love is not that personal at all, but the most common and universal of all emotions. The characters and the scenery change, but the narrative of love is as old as mankind itself. The Great and Ruinous lovers of old tales have shaped our subconscious image of Romantic Love. Their stories form a huge Archive, a Collective Consciousness of human love, containing all love songs ever written. Claudio Monteverdi hunted Amor down in his  Madrigali Guerrieri and Amorosi , Claude Vivier tried to grasp the essence of Eros in his  Love Songs , whereas José Sanchez-Verdu focusses on Thanatos in his Scriptura Antigua .

In Annelies Van Parys' song cycle Ah, cette Fable an angel is trapped by his mortal lover: if it stays on earth, it will die, if it takes wing, its lover will not survive. As this little tragedy unfolds, the Archive starts to resonate with it. Words, sounds, and feelings, trigger associations and memories of previous passions, both sacred and profane. Echoes and fragments of other, older love songs, interrupt it and complement it, thus pushing the story into new directions.
